Position Summary

The primary responsibility of the Purchaser is to procure materials for Tarpon’s various Electric & Controls divisional branches which are located across Western Canada.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sources, negotiates, procures, and manages material for Tarpon’s various branches on construction and maintenance projects.
  • Expedites and tracks all incoming material.
  • Assists Estimators by providing pricing for quotations.
  • Effective use of historical and other benchmarking data to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Provides concise and accurate administration/preparation of purchase orders and/or other required documents involved with the procurement process.
  • Generates and analyzes procurement and inventory related reports.
  • Keeps up-to-date with new supply sources; builds and maintains relationships with distributors/suppliers.
  • Assists in the implementation and management of strategic purchasing initiatives.
  • Ensures orders and quotes are meeting specified deadlines and paperwork from vendors is complete and correct.
  • Investigates and resolves inventory and pricing discrepancies.
  • Evaluates and advises Management of any serious ongoing issues with vendors.
  • Acts in a manner consistent with Tarpon’s core values and according to Tarpon’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethical Behavior, and PTW’s Code of Conduct, Whistleblower and Anti-Retaliation Policy
  • Complies with standards and procedures of the Tarpon Health & Safety Manual and Occupational Health & Safety Regulations.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Over 8 years relevant procurement experience (ex. oilfield, construction, heavy industry).
  • Exposure and understanding of instrumentation and/or electrical wholesale industry is an asset.
  • University degree, College diploma, or procurement certifications are an asset; relevant experience to be considered in lieu.
  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of procurement processes.
  • Previous integrated ERP experience an asset.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (specifically Word and Excel).
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks, and perform with sense of urgency.
  • Detail oriented and committed to accuracy.
  • Excellent time management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
  • Team-player mentality, flexible to manage fluctuating cross-company workload requirements.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and customer services skills are essential.

Special Conditions of Employment

Must have own transportation (public transportation not easily accessible). Position will be based out of Tarpon’s South Calgary office (7020-81 Street SE, Calgary). Occasional travel to Calgary downtown office, supplier offices, or Tarpon site offices may be required, but is not expected to be significant.
